Yellow means hilarious. : The Positive Benefits of Laughter in Life J
Laughter and humor both have wonderful impacts on the human body. They provide benefits to both the physiological and emotional aspects of the body.
William Fry, M.D. of Stanford University says that humor and creativity work in similar ways. By connecting relationships between two disconnected items, you engage the entire brain. Humor works rather quickly. Less than a half second after exposure to something funny, an electrical wave moves through the higher brain functions of the cerebral cortex. The left hemisphere analyzes the words and structures of the joke; the right hemisphere “gets” the joke. The visual sensory area of the occipital lobe creates images, the limbic or emotional system makes you happier and the motor sections make you smile or laugh.
Laughter can also provide positive impacts to some physiological aspects of the human body. Laughter can lower blood pressure and increase vascular blood flow and oxygenation of the blood. Laughter also gives a workout to the diaphragm and abdominal, respiratory, facial, leg and back muscles. Laughter has the ability to lower certain stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. It also is capable of increasing the response of tumor and disease-killing cells such as Gamma-interferon and T-cells. Laughter defends against respiratory infections, even reducing the frequency of colds through immunoglobulin in saliva. A study at Johns Hopkins University Medical School showing that laughter increases memory and learning and leads to increased test scores. Laughter has also shown to improve alertness, creativity and memory.
