The Benefits of a Massage
Massages always seem to be an enjoyable experience for most. But have you ever wondered why or how this benefits your body? Massages not only feel excellent and relaxing but can help in many other aspects of life as well! Massages are often thought of as part of complementary and alternative medicine. But their use along with standard treatment for many medical conditions is increasing. The Mayo Clinic has said that some studies have found that massages may be helpful with;
  • Anxiety- A massage reduces stress and can boost neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, which are involved with anxiety and depression.
  • Headaches- a massage of the temporal region can reduce the severity and number of migraines.
  • Insomnia related to stress- Massages can improve sleep through research done on the brains delta waves, which are connected to sleep.
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries- Massage’s promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks often reducing the causes of inflammation from injuries
Massages have shown to be effective in the following areas as well; Sports injuries, Temporomandibular joint pain, Digestive disorders, Fibromyalgia, Myofascial pain syndrome, Paresthesias and nerve pain.
