Raise it for Health!
Tobacco is still a problem,
5,100 MN adults die each year from smoking
88% of adult smokers started smoking by the age of 18 and 99% by the age of 26
118,000 MN kids who are under age 18 right now will die prematurely from smoking...
but.... there are solutions.
Minnesota, with a state cigarette tax of $1.23 per pack, is currently 28th among all states.
Raising the tax on tobacco by $1.50/pack will:
Reduce youth smokers by 61,600.
Reduce adult smokers by 29,200.
Avoid 27,400 smoking related death/
Save $1.3 billion in long term health care costs.
